Following the shooting death of two men in execution style at Stone Avenue on Monday night, a woman at the scene of the crime was taken into custody by the police, and late yesterday remained at the East La Penitence Police Station, assisting police with their investigations into another matter. So far, police have questioned several persons in connection with the shooting incident, but no one has so far been arrested.
Meanwhile, police are taking advantage of every conceivable clue that could lead them to the killers. This newspaper also learnt that yesterday the police invited a member of the home at which the other man killed, Godfrey Grootfaam, was staying at Canterbury Walk, Beterverwagting, to go down to the Criminal Investigation Department to give a statement.
Patrick Goodluck, 37, also called ‘Corbin’ of Mahaicony and Godfrey Grootfaam, 29, of 131 Canterbury Walk, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara , were killed in a hail of gunfire, around 20:00 hrs. Monday as they were driving out of Royal Drive onto Stone Avenue, also in Campbellville.
At the home of the Todd family where Grootfaam resided, family members were deeply shocked. His cousin Gavin Todd recalled that earlier in the afternoon Godfrey was playing music and having a good time, but later announced that he had to go to a hairdresser in BV to plait his hair for a party he was to attend in the village later that evening. However, on arriving at the woman’s place he learnt that she had gone to Bartica, so he set out to have it done in the city. While in the city he apparently caught up with Goodluck with whom he spent the remainder of the evening.
Gavin Todd recalled that as it was approaching 20:00 hrs and he did not see Godfrey return home to attend the party, he phoned him. A female answered him, saying that “dem man jus’ get shoot up”.
He leaves to mourn his parents George Grootfaam and Roxanne Mansonhing who both reside abroad, his son Tibari Grootfaam, and his mother and other relatives and friends.
Meanwhile, Goodluck who was said to be a construction worker, had been working in Barbados for quite some time, before returning to Guyana this time around. Additionally, he is said to have been acquitted of a murder charge a few years ago.
