THE East Coast Demerara Pandits and Mandir Leaders are once again hosting a satsangh in observance of the sacred period of Pitri Paksh tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday from 19:00 hrs every night on the Lusignan Market Tarmac.
Pitri Paksh is observed during the 15 days of the dark half of the Hindu month of Ashwin (September-October). Tillanjali (water with black sesame seeds) is offered in the name of the departed ones. During this period, the focus is on the contribution of the pitris, and devotees offer prayers and express sentiments on behalf of their departed ones.
The East Coast Demerara Pandits and Mandir Leaders have successfully organised Pitri Paksh satsangh in Lusignan for the past two years, and it has now evolved into a yearly event that attracts thousands from around the country.
Pandit Ravi Persaud, one of the organisers of the satsangh, said the objective is to develop favourable influences on the minds of the masses as the group continues to educate Hindus around the country.
He said the satsangh will highlight local young talent from different parts of the country. The group is also organising other events across the country to help resuscitate cultural traditions and customs.
It is also directing its attention towards reformation of youths and enlightening them about the benefits of the spiritual aspects of life rather than indulging in alcohol drinking, drug use, vulgar dancing and partying.
The East Coast Pandits and Mandir Leaders comprise individuals from all strata of society who are focusing on the restoration of cultural events and Hindu unity in the country.
The organisers are encouraging the public to come and support this sacred event.
