-but condition listed as stable
COMMISSIONER of Police, Mr. Henry Greene on Friday suffered a heart attack and is being treated at the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI), located in the Georgetown Public Hospital Complex.
However, his condition is not regarded as critical.
Greene, who may have been feeling unwell even before collapsing, did not attend the Joint Services Day of Sports at the Police Sports Club Ground on Friday, raising concerns in many quarters about his health.
He was initially rushed to the St. Josephs Mercy Hospital where he was stabilized , before being transferred to the CHI.
A well-placed source said on condition of anonymity that earlier yesterday, the Commissioner, after apparently experiencing some relief, took self-discharge from the institution, but was ‘promptly ordered back into hospital’ by a senior government functionary who has his best interest at heart.
Greene is expected to remain there until he is fully recovered, and the green light given for his discharge, the source said.
Meanwhile, an observer noted a team of police officials during the afternoon, leaving the Top Cop’s Kingston home in great haste, with grim faces and a sense of urgency, but with no sirens being sounded.
On checking with the CHI for word on the Commissioner’s state of Health, this newspaper was informed that they had strict instructions not to release any information on the official’s condition, nor, for that matter, anything about him.
Our source surmised that the Commissioner may have been suffering silently over the last twelve months or so since the migration of his family from Guyana.
During last year, he reportedly collapsed at an official function, and had to be rushed to hospital. And about a week ago, he was involved in a vehicular accident caused by a drunken driver who ran into his car in the city.
