ROY Moore, of Corriverton, was sentenced to a total of eight years imprisonment, Wednesday, on conviction for trafficking 33 grammes of cocaine and being in possession of five and half grammes of cannabis (marijuana).
Magistrate Krishndat Persaud, who convicted him at Springlands Court, also at Corentyne, Berbice, fined Moore $495,000 – ten times the street value of the illegal substances.
Police Sergeant Michael Grant, prosecuting, led evidence that, on September 21, cops, acting on information received, went to the convict’s home and a search of his person yielded the drugs in a pants pocket.
The labourer, who is a father of four, begged the Court for mercy, stating that he had the narcotics for “a little hustle”.
He received a five years sentence for the cocaine and a three years jail term for the marijuana but the sentences will run concurrently.
