Clico payout commences, progresses smoothly and orderly

Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh has indicated that the expected payout to Clico (Guyana) policyholders commenced on schedule in the morning yesterday, and progressed throughout the day in a smooth and orderly fashion.
During last week, Minister Singh had announced on a televised panel discussion that work had commenced and was continuing apace to prepare for the payout following the decision of the Court that the company be wound up, and in keeping with the announcements made by His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo at a meeting with policyholders held at the National Cultural Centre the previous week.
Last evening, Minister Singh restated that each policyholder is being sent a letter which designates a specific date for that policyholder to visit the head office of Clico. The Minister indicated that the first batch of these appointments commenced yesterday, and he confirmed that a number of policyholders who were invited to visit actually attended the scheduled visits and executed their business with the company, including receipt of payment where applicable. Minister Singh also indicated that the negligible number of policyholders who had queries either had their queries answered on the spot or, where necessary, were invited to return on a subsequent appointed date.
A telephone hotline is also being manned for the purpose of receiving and answering queries, and for rescheduling appointments where the policyholder is likely to be unable to attend on the date indicated in the letter they would have received.
