MICHAEL Squires (no address given) was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment yesterday on conviction for stealing a domesticated bird belonging to his neighbour.
The sentence was imposed by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at New Amsterdam Court, in Berbice, where the trial concluded.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, led two witnesses, who testified that, on May 27, Heralall Sasenarine was at his Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice home, when his barking dogs awakened him.
On looking outside, he saw the convict, whom he knew for seven years, jumping over his fence and a later check revealed that a drake, valued $1800, was missing.
