FOR the second successive year, Dependable Spares, which is located at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, has found it favourable to maintain their relationship with the Queenstown-based Demerara Cricket Club (DCC). At a simple presentation ceremony held in the showroom of the sponsors on Friday, manager Joshua Garraway handed over 30 coloured uniform and caps – a total value of $300 000 – to national all-rounder Christopher Barnwell and West Indies youth opener Trevon Griffith.
Prior to the presentation to the two cricketers, president of DCC, Alfred Mentore, hailed the achievement as another good day in the history of the club which was established in 1912 and is the ‘Home of the Legends’ of Guyana’s cricket.
“Certainly this is another good day in the life of DCC, as we are continuing from where we left off with coach Gavin Nedd’s summer camp, where three of our national players, Travis Dowlin, Christopher Barnwell and Derwin Christian, made a commitment towards the development of the club.
“Dependable Spares has been stepping up to the plate for the past two years by providing uniforms for our first division team and we are thankful and grateful to them for this generosity, as it not only shows their commitment to the club, but also sports in general,” stated Mentore.
Mentore said the donation of the uniforms by the sponsor was done with good faith, as the club went on to win the national T20 championships last year, shortly after receiving their first set of uniforms and for the sponsor to come on board again, speaks volumes of the club’s on-field performance.
Garraway said his company was happy to be able to make the donation to the club and vowed they will be doing so in the future as they are happy with the way the executives of DCC have been executing their programmes.
