Ace Warriors suffer second defeat in many days

DESPITE a solid all round performance from fast bowler Steven Harris (2-49 and 65), Ace Warriors suffered their second defeat in as many days, when they went under to Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) by 61 runs in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) organized Haier Cup sponsored second division limited overs tournament yesterday.
Playing at the GYO’s Woolford Avenue ground, Ace Warriors won the toss and invited their host to take first strike, to which they scored an imposing 260-8 from their 40 overs, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul hitting a resilient 51 (4×4, 3×6).

Abdul Rahim offered support to Chanderpaul with a responsible 40 that was decorated with two sixes and one four against the bowling of Harris.

When Ace Warriors batted, they were going at a steady pace thanks to Harris who struck seven sixes and three fours in his innings.

Levar Douglas 36 (4×4, 2×6) and Walter October 25 (2×6, 2×40 offered support to Harris but none of the other batsmen managed to past 15, as Patrick Bradford grabbed 5-52 with his off spinners for GYO.

In the other two matches, Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) and Everest Cricket Club (ECC) defeated Vikings and Transport Sports Club (TSC) by two wickets and 62 runs respectively.

At GNIC: Vikings won the toss and decided to take first strike, to which they made 186-7 from their 40 overs, with Trevor Henry 53 (5×6), 2×4), Jason Da Silva 40 (4×6, 1×4), and Richard Hoyte 28 not out leading the batting.

Quincy Ovid-Richardson and Shaun De Souza took three wickets each for 27 and 49 runs while Collis Butts took 2-21 for GNIC who in reply reached 191-8 off 35.4 overs, thanks to Kumar Singh 50 (4×6, 2×4), Ronale Bourne 46 (4×6, 2×4) and Elton Baker 48 (6×4, 1×6) against the bowling of Vivekanand Dalloo (3-34) and Lawrence Williams 2-29.

At DCC: Everest won the toss and scored 227-9 off 40 overs, with Hemraj Chanderpaul 61 (3×4, 3×6), Ahbilash Deokie (33), Surendra Hirelall (30) and Amir Khan 20 leading the batting.

Shaun Massiah (3-39) and Shafeek Imtiaz 3-51 did the damage with the ball for TSC who were held to 165-9 off their 40 overs, with Massiah hitting 40 and Marc Nicholson 16 against Khan (3-23) and Dennis Mangra 2-35. (Calvin Roberts).
