GCA/Haier Cup …

MSC, ECC, DCC and GCC record victories
MALTEENOES Sports Club, Everest Cricket Club, Demerara Cricket Club and Georgetown Cricket Club all recorded victories when action in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Haier Cup second division limited overs competition resumed yesterday.

At the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ground, MSC scraped past their eastern neighbours Transport Sports Club (TSC) by one wicket on a flat track that was more suitable for the blind version of the gentleman’s game.
Winning the toss and opting to take first strike in sultry conditions, TSC were bowled out for 100 from 24.1 overs, with Clyde Hoyte making an unbeaten 28 (3×6) and Shafeek Ishmael 17 against the bowling of Seon Daniels, Kareem Naughton, Neil Barry Jr and Shaquille Williams who took two wickets each.
In reply, MSC were indebted to the batting of Steven Sankar who struck three sixes in his unbeaten 20 and Kwame Crosse 14, as they reached 102-9 from 18.1 overs, against the bowling of Shawn Massiah (3-14) and Imtiaz Puran who took 2-24.
At the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, ECC humbled Ace Warriors by eight wickets, despite two solid innings from Levar Douglas and Walter October.
Douglas made 42 and October 33, adding over 50 for the first wicket, but Ace Warriors lost wickets at regular intervals and crawled to 122 from 19.1 overs before they were bowled out, with Abhilash Dhookie (4-28) and national Under-19 leg-spinner Amir Khan 3-19 doing the damage with the ball.
Riding on the back of Christopher Surat’s 39, his brother Khemraj Ramdeen 33 and Chanderpaul Hemraj’s unbeaten 15, ECC reached 126-2 from 20.4 overs, with Mortland Warde who made a fighting 15 when Ace Warriors batted, picking up 2-47.
At GCC, the home team humiliated Third Class before walking away with a comfortable nine-wicket victory.
After bowling out their opponents who won the toss and opted to bat first for a meagre 79 from 29.3 overs, thanks to Raphael Singh (4-9) and Raj Nanan 2-13, GCC blazed their way to 81-1 from 9.3 overs, with Robin Bacchus contributing 34 while Winston Forrester and Dellon Fernandes were unbeaten on 18 and 11 respectively.
At the DCC ground, the ‘Home of the Legends’, the home team made light work of Vikings, as they walked away with an easy seven-wicket victory thanks to the energetic hitting of Jamal Hinckson.
DCC bowled out their lesser known opponents for 119 from 16 overs, with Trevor Henry who made 15 being the lone batsman to offer resistance to the bowling of Lyndon Lyght and Trevor Simpson, who both took three wickets for 8 and 22 runs respectively.
In DCC’s 120-3 which took them 14.3 overs to achieve, Hinckson top-scored with 38 including five sixes and one four while former national Under-15 batsman Jahron Byron offered support with 22.
The game between the University of Guyana (UG) and GNIC at UG was cancelled due to the unfit condition of the ground.
Action in the tournament will continue today, with Ace Warriors facing GYO at GYO, ECC and TSC meeting at UG, GNIC and Vikings clashing at GNIC and GCC playing host to UG with all matches commencing at 11:00 h.
