– in shocking execution-style drive-by shooting in Cummings Lodge
FOUR persons, including a baby, are dead while another – a female – was up to midnight last night clinging to life following a calculated, execution-style drive-by shooting in Cummings Lodge which sent shockwaves through the community and left residents asking “why?”.
Dead are Christopher George, called ‘Bigga’, Steve Jupiter called ‘Steve man’, his infant son Neon Jupiter and one other man, known as ‘Dice man’.
Doctors were, up to press time, battling to save badly wounded Fiona Singh who reportedly received five gunshot wounds.
According to reports, the five persons were in a white Toyota Mark 2 car, PLL 2279, turning into Second Field Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown – in the vicinity of the University of Guyana – when another car with gunmen pulled up and started firing. This was said to be at around 19:30 hrs last night.
There was pandemonium at the Georgetown Public Hospital last night as scores of emotionally charged relatives and other residents of the Cummings Lodge/Sophia area converged there and clamoured to the side of the ambulance which still had the bodies inside some 10 minutes after arriving in the compound.
The gunshot-riddled bodies in the ambulance bore terrible wounds as it was clear the weapons used in the attack were high-powered assault rifles. One of the bodies was without one of the arms and another was disemboweled by the force of the gunfire.
Police gathered at the hospital said some 25 spent shells were recovered from the shooting scene at Cummings Lodge.
One woman, who identified herself as the sister of Steve Jupiter, said she heard that there had been a shooting and that her brother was one of the victims. She said the last time she saw her brother alive was on Friday last.
At the hospital, many of the residents expressed shock at the manner in which the persons met their demise.
Relatives wailed as they saw the bodies lying in the ambulance in a mutilated state. Some of the persons fainted when they saw the bodies. Some chanted in anger at the killing, saying that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
Because of the massive crowd, black clothes police had to perform crowd control duties in managing who could or could not enter the Accident and Emergency building at the Hospital.
Up to press time, there has not been any official police report on the incident.
