A nation united as Caribbean T20 champions head to South Africa

Sports View
GUYANA is currently a united nation. United in support of our national cricket team, who will be leaving tomorrow to play in the second Airtel Championship Twenty20 League in South Africa.
As the team prepares to leave for South Africa, Guyanese at home and in the Diaspora are following them with keen interest and overflowing enthusiasm.

Thousands of Guyanese flocked to the Guyana National Stadium at Providence to support our cricketers in their two matches against Trinidad and Tobago.  Guyana scored 188 runs in their second match when they defeated Trinidad and Tobago.
It should also be noted that this victory was achieved despite a depleted bowling attack, i.e. Devendra Bishoo and Lennox Cush did not play in the second match.
Ramnaresh Sarwan’s solid and masterful  68 which provided the foundation for Guyana to humble Trinidad and Tobago by a laudable 48 runs is most encouraging for the Guyanese team. Guyana lost the toss and Trinidad invited them to bat first.
Travis Dowlin seems to be in fair form with the bat. However, it is imperative that he converts his rather consistent “thirty and forty” scores into fifties and   there is still room for improvement in his fielding.
Christopher Barnwell played a solid and quick 32 not out and he received excellent support from the young sensation Jonathan Foo. These two youngsters have demonstrated that they are not only capable of hitting the ball hard but they are also clean strikers with the uncanny ability to middle the ball more often than not.
It was indeed heartening to see the running between the wickets. Sarwan and Deonarine really took a few very quick singles. Further, running for a second run was very quick and took the Trinidadians by surprise.
The Guyanese team’s fielding was indeed impressive. Most of the players were electrifying in the field. Players were chasing the ball to the boundary making some magnificent stops and saving some very possible runs.

TEAM SPIRIT
Ramnaresh Sarwan is certainly a source of inspiration in the Guyanese team. Sarwan is an accomplished world class batsman who leads from the front. It is compulsory that he bats at number three and plays through the innings.
Sarwan has the ability to lend stability to the middle order batting and also to finish the innings with a wide array of shots. Guyana has a strong batting line-up capable of making challenging scores and also challenging any score when chasing.
With their razor sharp fielding, Guyana can upset any batting line-up. Magnificent fielding can prevent teams from risking quick singles and converting ones into twos, thus reducing the run rate. Batsmen will also be pressured into risking their wickets by going over the top in an attempt to score quick runs.
Paul Wintz seems to be a useful quick bowler.  He will prove very effective on the lively pitches in South Africa.  However, Barnwell and Esauu Crandon are slow medium pace bowlers.  Hence, they will have to concentrate on bowling an immaculate line and length.
Guyana’s bowling strength lies with our spinners, Bishoo and Cush. The two spinners must be consistent and physically fit for this Championship League. They will certainly receive valuable support from Deonarine and possibly the same from Foo and Sewnarine Chattergoon.
With the impressive win over Trinidad and Tobago the Government of Guyana decided to give their full support to the National Cricket team. This team will be representing this country and the Caribbean.  All of South America will be following this Guyana cricket team like we rallied around Brazil earlier this year in the Football World Cup in South Africa.
All the other teams that will be playing in the South Africa Championship League will be representing clubs and counties. The Sarwan-led National Team will be the only team representing a country.
The ‘Amazon Conquerors’, proudly uniformed in our country’s national colours, will be Guyana’s newest Ambassadors to the world. The honourable duty of making this Nation proud now falls on their shoulders.
Our National Cricket Team will be in South Africa. The Amazon Conquerors will be going all out to conquer the Champion League Title. The massive overflowing crowds that filled the Guyana National Stadium at Providence will be in their homes, workplaces and social gatherings around the world rallying behind our Champion Cricket Team.
Guyanese are proud of our National Cricket Team.  Ramnaresh Sarwan, an inspirational leader, a master batsman will be leading a team that is fully pumped-up, fully focused and with the passion to conquer the Airtel Champion League covetous trophy and return home with it.
This entire nation and by extension the Caribbean and the Diaspora will be rooting with our cricketers. Let’s rally behind our golden boys as they keep the Golden Arrow Head sky high.
