GBBC/GABA ProAm Fights

Trotman suffers TKO at hands of Austin
… Moses, Gilkes and Marques decision opponents
WHILE watching Mark Austin record a convincing victory over Shawn Pile in the sixth edition of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC)/Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) ProAm Fights, Errol Trotman said he would beat both of them in one night.
His words did not fall on deaf ears, as the matchmakers of the Friday Night Fights granted him his wish – a match with Austin in the seventh edition which was held last Friday night and the result was simple for all to see, Trotman suffered a technical knockout.

Also recording victories were Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes, Mandessa Moses and Dexter Marques who had unanimous decision results over Theophilus ‘Blue’ King, Sharon ‘Stone’ Warde and Rudolph Fraser respectively.
From the first round to the time of the TKO, Austin, who took his professional record to 3-0 with the win, was all over Trotman who seemed to be at sea instead of at the venue, unleashing the amount of blows he said he would, one month ago.
Austin treated and scolded Trotman like a father to a son who had committed an offence at home, unleashing a series of combinations, where he sent Trotman to the canvas on two occasions, before the sound of the bell was a reprieve for Trotman.
The onslaught continued throughout the second round, which saw Trotman unleashing a few punches which seemed ineffective, as Austin retaliated with a number of combinations of his own that backed Trotman to the ropes on several occasions, which had persons asking the question – when would the knockout come?
To the approval of all gathered at Guyana’s lone indoor venue, Trotman who endured another onslaught from Austin from the opening bell of round three, found comfort on the canvas, at which point his corner thought they had seen enough and threw in the towel midway the round.
Trotman wanted to continue and signalled so by throwing the towel back out, but at that stage, Austin was celebrating his win while Trotman’s corner men were heading into the squared circle to get their man.
In the Gilkes/King match-up which came about after King felt he had defeated Gilkes the first time they met two months ago, Gilkes ensured there were no reasons to doubt he is the superior fighter.
He out-punched and even knocked down King within the first minute of the second round and followed it with several crisp combinations and while King got in a few punches of his own, Gilkes replied with telling blows to gain the judges’ decision unanimously.
Rudolph Fraser had a brief introduction to the ProAm card back in February, when he suffered a first-round knockout to Troy Lewis, but this time around, he went the full distance with Marques, even though he lost in the end.
Marques used his ring craft well, jabbing and moving from Fraser, while stepping in to unleash a few unanswered combinations occasionally, to which Fraser responded with some crisp combinations of his own which did not prevent Marques from gaining the judges’ nod.
Warde said she was not afraid of the storm as long as Christ Jesus was on the ship with regard to her match-up with Moses, who had earlier asked her opponent to be prepared to fight.
They both lived up to their pre-fight talk, with Warde taking the fight to Moses who stayed from the outside and counterattacked, going in on a few occasions following her crisp Muhammad Ali-like jabs with a few combinations.
In the end, Moses who was forced to weather a few storms from Warde, did enough to come away with another win on the ProAm card, her fourth following her professional debut loss to Trinidad and Tobago’s Wendy Allen last year.
On the amateur side of things, Devon Boatswain maintained his supremacy over Kelsie George whom he knocked out in the second round, Marvin Ajeday walked away with a 2-1 decision over Nandkumar Singh for the second time, while Bert Braithwaite easily defeated Dameion Ross by a 3-0 margin.
But the surprise of the night came in the Keeve Allicock/Dexter Jordan match-up, with Allicock completely dominating Jordan who is a 2010 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) games bronze medallist en route to a 3-0 decision.
At the end of the amateur segment, COURTS (Guyana) Inc. presented each amateur boxer with a voucher that is redeemable at specific supermarkets around the country, instead of the hampers.
