Minister Prashad lauds Bikers Fest organisers

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad noting the success of the event, said that Bikers Fest is one of the main attractions now. The minister met last Thursday with Sonic Hunters Bikers Club members and Bikers Fest organisers, Carey Griffith and Justin Carpenter, at his South Road office, in Georgetown.
Bikers Fest 2010 which is part of Guyana’s calendar of summer events done by the Tourism Ministry and the Guyana Tourism Authority was held last Sunday at the National Park in the city, attracting about 15,000 persons.
His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo and Minister Prashad also joined in the thrill and excitement.
Minister Prashad said his ministry was happy to be part of the collaborative effort to promote Bikers Fest, which is one of the biggest events during the summer season in Guyana.
He observed that many persons have the impression that it is something rough and dangerous but “the event was well-organised” with international participants from the United States and across the Caribbean with good safety and security measures in place.
The minister said he was impressed with the “incident and accident- free” Bikers Fest 2010, and the huge turnout.
The 10th annual Lake Mainstay Regatta and the Miss Jamzone International pageant swimsuit segment were also held last Sunday and to this end, the minister noted that it goes to show that Guyana can accommodate several major events at the same time.
It is now a calendar event and Prashad said all these activities are happening because of the number of tourists and overseas-based Guyanese coming back to the country during this period, with Bikers Fest being one of the main attractions now.
He said the organisers are doing an excellent job, and because of the success of this year’s event and the increase interest being generated, the organizers are now looking at planning a two-day event.
The Tourism Minister noted that it is a family event as well, and “Bikers Fest is a good entertainment for Guyanese and for tourists alike”.
