Former Fire Chief Tulsie John surprised by progress

Visiting Joint Services Scheme …
FORMER Fire Chief Tulsie John, after spending nine years abroad, was pleasantly surprised on his recent visit to the Joint Services Housing Scheme, in North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The reason for his delight was that he had played an integral part in the process of its establishment during his tenure as Chief Fire Officer and was Chairman of the Joint Services Housing Committee, at the start of the project when Dr. Cheddi Jagan was President.
A proud John said, last week, that he was amazed and gratified at the level of development at the location since that time.
While he was visiting, he made a stop at Tulsie John Avenue, named for him, where he took souvenir pictures.
John, who joined the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) in 1967, moved through the ranks and became its head in 1992. It was during his association with the scheme that he was appointed by Major General (ret’d) Joe Singh, to be Chairman of the Housing Scheme.
“The officers worked assiduously to get the land prepared,” John remembered.
He said he would like to see both the Government and the Private Sector contribute magnanimously to the scheme for the benefit of the hard working ranks,as a boost their morale.
John intends to make a small financial contribution to the Joint Services Fund towards the continued development of the community.
