The unidentified body of a man of African descent, pulled out of the canal along Irving Street, Georgetown, in the vicinity of Guyana Water Inc. premises, attracted a large crowd of curious onlookers about 10:45 hours.
The well dressed corpse, with no marks of violence, was discovered by two boys, Troy Cush,12 and Sherwin Roberts, 13, both of Sophia, who were playing a ball game when they saw it in the water and raised an alarm.
The lads told the Guyana Chronicle that they ran to nearby Fulton Court, in Irving Street, where they alerted a security guard and the Police were summoned.
The boys said they were on their way to visit their aunt, who is a vendor on Regent Street but waited for a while after they spoke to the Police.
The Lyken Funeral Parlour hearse arrived on the scene at 11: 36 hours and took away the deceased who was lying face down when fished out and put on the parapet.
Investigators searched the dead man’s pockets and found a string of keys, some money and other things, including a piece of paper. He was clutching some $20 and $100 notes in his hands.
The man, who appeared to be in his mid-40s was clad in a pair of long pants and a shirt, wearing a wrist watch and ‘Timberland’ boots.
