T&T lose late wickets in reply to Windwards’ 236

DENNERY, St Lucia (CMC) – Kaveem Hodge grabbed late wickets to put Windward Islands in a competitive position against Trinidad & Tobago, after half-centuries from Atticus Brown and captain Audy Alexander propped-up their batting in the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge yesterday. Trinidad & Tobago, replying to Windwards’ first innings total of 236, reached 52 for three at the close on the first day of their second round at the Dennery Playing Field.
Hodge finished with two wickets for 15 runs from six overs, after Bronte Bess bowled Teshawn Castro for eight.
He trapped the other T&T opener Nicholas Alexis lbw for 17, and had Evin Lewis caught at slip for a duck off the last ball of the day to leave T&T on the back-foot.
Earlier, Brown hit the top score of 71, and Alexander supported with 51 to add some respectability to the Windwards’ innings.
Opener Brown batted for 2¼-hours and struck 11 fours, while Alexander spent two hours at the crease in which time he collected five fours and two sixes.
T&T and West Indies Under-19 leg-spinner Yannic Cariah bagged four wickets for 45 runs from 14.2 overs.
Windwards appeared to be steady on 76 for two at lunch, after losing opener Dwight Smith and Hodge cheaply in the morning session.
After the interval, Sunil Ambris joined Brown and consolidated for the Windwards in a stand of 65, but Windwards wobbled to 139 for five.
Alexander then arrived, and after carrying his side to 167 for six at tea, held the bottom half of the batting together before the innings folded in the first hour after the break.
T&T are tied for second with Barbados on six points, and Windwards are tied for fourth with Jamaica on three points.
T&T drew with Jamaica in the opening round, when the Windwards had a similar result against the Barbadians.
