Modern Optical to sponsor Inter-Service Pistol Shoot on Sunday

MODERN Optical of Middle Street, Cummingsburg, will sponsor Sunday’s Inter-Service Pistol Shooting championship billed for the Timehri Rifle and Pistol Ranges. The team event, organised by the Smallbore (handgun) Section of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA), will feature some of the top handgun shooters locally.
The competing teams are Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defence Force, Bank of Guyana Security, Presidential Guards, US Embassy Regiment Security and GNRA handgun shooters.
Smallbore captain Joseph Chin disclosed that over 40 shooters will participate in the one-day tournament that will be run under International Practical Shooters Confederation (IPSC) rules.
Chin said the tournament will be shot in three stages and shooters will be divided into three categories.
Managing director of Modern Optical Dr Jose Da Silva on Tuesday presented the sponsorship cheque, trophies and medals to the secretary of the GNRA Ryan Sampson.
Dr Da Silva said he was pleased to sponsor the tournament and offered his company’s continued support to the GNRA.
Sampson said that the Inter-Service competition has become a regular feature on the GNRA calendar of events and he thanked Modern Optical for sponsoring the event this year.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in each category while medals will be presented to the outstanding shooters.
Present at the presentation ceremony also were several shooters and committee members of the GNRA including Dr Johan Da Silva, David Dharry, Ryan McKinnon and Troy Peters.
The action starts at 09:00 h on Sunday.
