TVET centres working to attain Caribbean Vocational Standards

Technical and vocational training centres around Guyana are working towards meeting the Caribbean vocational standards, which will allow them to issue the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) certificate.
This ensures that a holder of a CVQ certificate can obtain employment anywhere in the region.
The CVQ certificate is also recognised internationally.

Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council, Sydney Walters, has indicated that the Caribbean’s vocational qualifications are designed primarily to ensure that the same content is delivered throughout the region.
He added that the content of the curriculum will be influenced by the regional standard and encompass facilities and occupational standards.
Walters emphasised that the qualifications obtained by an individual who pursued technical/vocational training developed from the regional standard, will be able to gain employment anywhere in the region since his/her qualifications would be accepted by employers.
Additionally, those persons who are uncertified and who are desirous of travelling overseas to gain employment, irrespective of where they gained their experience and knowledge of their occupation, can be assessed and certified with a CVQ certificate by the relevant authorities.
The value of that certificate is extremely important to persons who are hoping to pursue vocational studies and those who are already in the industry and are seeking to practise their trade overseas.
The Ministry of Education, along with the TVET centres, is making significant strides towards ensuring the standards are met.
In so doing, changes are being made to the training centres curriculum, including improvement of the content. (GINA)
