Two accused drug traffickers refused bail

SHANNA Patricia Jonas, 26, was yesterday remanded to prison on a drug trafficking charge.
The defendant appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton and pleaded not guilty.
Particulars of the offence said, between June 21and 24, at Cheddi Jagan International Airport,
she had 870 grammes of cocaine for the purpose.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Patrice Henry, was granted his request that the case be transferred to Providence Court, also on East Bank Demerara, for July 1.
Jonas was one of two defendants on drugs charges in the same Court.
The other, Devon Phillips Armstrong (no address given either) was also denied bail.
It was alleged that he attempted to export cocaine through Guyana Post Office Cooperation (GPOC) he, too, pleaded not guilty.
Particulars of his offence said it was committed on June 25 with 30 grammes of cocaine that he intended to traffick by means of export.
Armstrong has to be back in Court on July 15.
