Passport forgery defendant on $200,000 bail

ALAIN Batson, of Lot 35 Lamaha Park, Georgetown, was granted $200,000 bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, charged  with conspiracy to commit felony.
It is alleged that, on June 23, at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, he tried to board a flight to St Vincent, using a passport issued to Shamar Byron.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, told the Court the forgery of the travel document was detected by an immigration officer who observed that the photograph was inserted and the signature did not match.
The defendant, who has to face trial on August 3, said he met another man who offered to get him a passport for $60,000.
