GIFTLAND OfficeMax yesterday made a timely contribution to the Media XI, who will be competing against McGill Superstars in an exhibition match, when the second DJ Stress 20/20 Festival bowls off at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, next Sunday. At a simple presentation ceremony held in the sponsor’s Water Street Office, Marketing Manager Compton Babb handed over 17 pairs of track pants to the manager of the Media XI, Kaieteur News’ Franklyn Wilson, in the presence of other members of the team.
In an invited comment, Babb said his employers were always pleased to give back to the public in any way possible, hence they had no hesitation to say yes to the Media XI when they knocked on the door.
“We at Giftland OfficeMax are always proud to be a part of sports. We are very proud to offer our support to the Media team and we hope that this can be an annual something on a wider scale, involving other sports such as basketball, volleyball and football just to name a few.
With that in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Media team all the best in their upcoming match, knowing that Giftland OfficeMax will be behind them all he way in whatever way we possibly can,” stated Babb.
In his reply, Wilson thanked the sponsors for their timely contribution, while stating that his side was eager to go out there and perform to the best of their ability on Sunday.
“First of all, let me say thanks to Giftland OfficeMax for this good gesture which will serve as an added plus to the team. At the same time, I must say that the guys are eager to go out there and give their best performance.
“The team has been doing well despite not being able to practise together, with most of the players doing their own personal work and that alone speaks volumes, while as a team, we will commence our training tomorrow (today) at the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence.”
Wilson further stated that his team is a strong one built on talent and experience, singling out players with the calibre of former national Under-19 off-spinner Sean Devers who is the skipper, Ravendra Madholall, John Ramsingh, Brandon Cabose, Rawle Toney and Calvin Roberts for special mention.
