On carnal knowledge charge…

C.N. Sharma to return to Court June 21
Justice For All (JFA) Party Leader, Chandra Narine Sharma, appeared in court yesterday as the preliminary inquiry into the carnal knowledge charge against him continued.
The case was called before Magistrate Susanna Lovell and the first witness appeared and gave evidence against the television broadcaster. The case was adjourned to June 21.

On April 20, Magistrate Melissa Robertson refused bail for Sharma after she read a charge to him that said between July 23, 2003, and July 23, 2004, he had carnal knowledge of a girl under seven years.
Bail was granted the following day by magistrate Lovell, in the sum of $2M, and the preliminary inquiry subsequently commenced.
Sharma again appeared in court on April 26 and a new charge of obstructing the course of justice was read to him by Magistrate Robertson.
Particulars of that charge said on April 15, he willfully attempted to obstruct the course of justice by removing two of the girls at the centre of the allegations against him from a house in Robb Street and taking them to one at 123 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, in order to prevent them from being questioned by the police in relation to the allegations.
He was released on $100,000 bail for this matter and it will be called again on June 21.
Following the circulation of an affidavit by a girl who claimed that the politician/businessman had raped her repeatedly for years, and a report to the Police, Sharma was asked to report to the Police for questioning.
He showed up at Eve Leary with his lawyer and was taken to Brickdam Police Station where he collapsed.
It is alleged that the girl, now 13, was repeatedly raped by Sharma ever since she was seven. The girl also stated that Sharma did the same thing to her siblings and they would receive $2,000 per week after sexual intercourse.
The girl added in the statement that she and her four sisters were all raped and sexually abused by Sharma over a period of time.
