GCB/DIGICEL Summer Smash
ROYSTON Crandon’s Free Talk and Homchand Pooran’s Free Credit will battle in the Berbice zone final of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)-organised, Digicel-sponsored Summer Smash Twenty20 competition at the Port Mourant Community Centre ground today. Both sides recorded commanding victories over Devendra Bishoo’s Free Weekend at the Edinburgh Cricket Club ground last Saturday, hence today’s final and irrespective of the outcome of this game which bowls off at 13:00 h, both teams will represent Berbice in the Super Six stage of the competition.
Apart from skipper Crandon, Free Talk includes players with the calibre of Sewnarine Chattergoon, Richard Ramdeen, Sherwin Murray, Steven Latcha, Yodindra Harrinarine and Rajiv Ivan.
Pooran’s Free Credit may not have big names like their opponents, but there are some players who display a never-say-die attitude in the face of danger.
Anthony D’Andrade blasted a 23-ball 36, while Yogindra Thakurdeen went one better when he took 18 deliveries to compile his 26 and with batsmen in the mould of Eon Hooper, Anthony Bramble, Keith Fraser and Peter Grimes, they can certainly get a target given to them by Crandon’s Free Talk.
