Those wishing to unseat the PPP/C will continue dreaming

MANY writers who are opposed to the ruling PPP government claim that the election in England and that of Trinidad and Tobago was  different from the past where the opposition has come together to form the government. They are using this analogy to fool the Guyanese people. There is nothing new in these elections.
In England no party got the 326 seats to form the government so the Conservative party which won 306 seats teamed up with the Liberal Democratic which won 57 seats. If any party had a majority they would have never invited another party to run the country.
The coming together of the opposition in Trinidad is the coming together of two factions of the UNC. Other individuals who had differences with Mr. Manning joined in.
Winston Dookeran who was a new comer in the UNC had differences with Mr. Panday so he left and formed his own party. In the election preceding the 2010 Dookeran pulled a large number of votes but he did not win any seat.
With Panday out of the UNC Dookeran came back and the UNC won the election.
In Guyana the situation is all different. The PPP does not have a leadership problem and the party is not divided. Many who believe that they are too big for the party left but they did carry any support with them. The last was Khemraj Ramjattan who left with no followers. He has now become a puppet in the party that he helped form. He is being used to get votes from the PPP but he is failing badly. Writing in the press now and then and opening an office in the Corentyne will not help.
The political pundits and the wishful thinkers who are day dreaming to see the fall of the PPP government by a joint opposition force will have to continue dreaming. The opposition parties have only one thing in common and that is to see the defeat of the PPP, but how to go about doing it is their biggest problem.
They all want to be the leader and that is their biggest obstacle. All their leaders are professional people and will not give up their job to work with the people because they know to their hearts that they are fighting a losing battle.
When the PPP was in the opposition only a few of its executive members had jobs. The PPP always had the people at heart and was always with them.
Anyone who wants to fight for the people must know what the people want and don’t assume what the people want.
Everyday we read articles from people like Kissoon and others, who write daily about corruption, elected dictators, mismanagement, police brutally, race, etc. This is not the people’s cup of tea. Some of the things that people need are to build their own house, good roads, education for their children, land to do agriculture, jobs, etc.
When a government can provide these things for its people why would they want to change it?
