GUYANA’S dream of having its own Olympic-size swimming pool will soon be realised, following the arrival of a pre-fabricated pool from internationally renowned manufacturers, Myrtha Pool, in Italy.
Chronicle Sport was invited to have a first-hand view at the Pattensen, Turkeyen site, Wednesday, where two containers were off-loading the necessary fabrication needed to erect the long-awaited pool, which, when finished, will be most welcome by the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA).
Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony has stated that significant advances have been made with the facility apart from the pool, noting that a technician from the manufacturers of the pool was here overseeing the off-loading of the pool, before being joined by other technical officials to execute the installation of same.
Dr Anthony, who was very optimistic that the construction of the pool is running on schedule, further stated that works on the two buildings should be completed in another month and a half, as painting among other works, is ongoing.
According to information received, Myrtha Pools who has been accredited by FINA, the world governing body for swimming, has over 45 years of experience, characterised by ‘360 degree’ coverage of the market.
They have built swimming pools in over 70 countries around the world, from Iceland to Arabia, Brazil to Japan and United States to Australia; in all extremes of climatic and environmental conditions and their exclusive technologies have been chosen for great international competitions, such as the Olympic Games and World Swimming Championships.
