OVER the last two years, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) under the leadership of the Keith Foster-led administration, has completed over 100 projects, creating history in first division cricket in Guyana.
On June 25, the BCB created history again when it joined hands with the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) to produce a Coaching DVD for young cricketers in the Ancient County.
The Coaching DVD would be the first every produced by a Cricket Board in the Caribbean and would be a major achievement for the Berbice Cricket Board as it aims to lift the standard of the game in Berbice to an all-time high.
Secretary/CEO of the RHTYSC and chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, who is spearheading the project said that the main aim of the project is to assist in the development of every available and potential talent in the county.
He noted that with the renewed emphasis of coaching by the BCB via its Elite Junior and Senior Coaching Programmes, the DVD would allow junior cricketers to develop by practising at home by themselves.
The BCB has established a technical committee headed by its senior cricket coach Adrian Amsterdam and includes coaches Hubern Evans, Winston Smith, Andre Percival and Julian Moore, while former national coach Albert Smith would also be on the panel and would serve as an adviser to Amsterdam.
Experienced journalist and Head of Matrix Video Production, Christopher Holder, has been contracted to produce and edit the DVD which would be shared out to all cricket clubs in Berbice and members of the Berbice Junior and Senior Elite Coaching programme.
Both the BCB and RHTYSC would like to express gratitude to Cellink for fully sponsoring the production of the project and to Marketing Manager Mr Wystan Robertson for his support on the coaching DVD which will be launched at a gala ceremony in early September.
Production of the DVD would start in two weeks at the Albion Community Centre Ground and several national players namely Sewnarine Chattergoon, Devendra Bishoo, Esaun Crandon, Homchand Pooran and Delbert Hicks have been identified to work along with the coaches.
Meanwhile, on Sunday last, the BCB completed its coaching clinic for young cricketers by successfully hosting a batting clinic for 27 promising batsmen from the Under-13 to Under-19 levels.
The four-hour session was conducted by cricket coaches Winston Smith and Julian Moore with assistance from Chattergoon at the Albion Community Centre Cricket ground.
A total of 102 cricketers attended the four clinics for batsmen, spinners, fast bowlers and wicketkeepers which were conducted by the BCB over a period of four weeks.
The Junior Selection Committee along with the coaches would meet this week to name a 32-man squad that would undergo further coaching under the BCB’s Junior Elite Programme and the 2010 Scotiabank Cricket Academy.
On Sunday June 27, the BCB would launch another segment of its training programme when 30 junior captains would be part of a Seminar to improve their captaincy skills.
