ACTING Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday refused bail to a man charged with beating another.
Particulars of the offence said the defendant, Kenneth Singh, 53, of Lot 51 Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, unlawfully assaulted Raul Chin, so as to cause him actual bodily harm.
Singh, who pleaded not guilty, said he had gone to the virtual complainant for a battery that the latter collected on his behalf but Chin became abusive and he took off his belt and gave him a few lashes.
Chin complained that, after being beaten with the belt, Singh also threatened him, telling him he wasn’t finished with him yet.
According to Chin, Singh wrongly accused him of collecting a battery, something he does not know about and went into his store where the assault took place.
Singh was remanded to prison until June 14.
