RAUN Kansinally (no address given) was yesterday put on $150,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty, before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, to an embezzlement charge. Particulars of the offence said, between April 28 and May 29, he received eight ounces 18 pennyweights of raw gold, worth $1.7M, property of Dennis Rampersaud and converted the $604,000 value to his own use and benefit.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Gary Ramlochan, representing him, said the defendant is the manager of a mining company at Mahdia, Potaro, who was left in charge of the business and used the money to pay some employees and purchase fuel and other items to continue the operations.
The lawyer said, when the virtual complainant returned to the camp, he told Kansinally he was not authorised to make payments to anyone nor buy anything.
The case will be called, again, on July 14.
