GPL introduces new Customer Information Service

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has implemented a modern Customer Information Service (CIS) which will significantly assist the company in its continuing efforts to provide an improved quality of service to customers.
One of the key changes is the new bill, which is being published and advertised on television.

According to Public Relations Officer, Shevion Sears-Murray, the project is being funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) under the Loss Reduction Investments Management Programme. This system is scheduled to be fully implemented during the second quarter of this year.
She said major benefits are immediate allocation of a customer account and customer number on receipt of an application for an electricity supply, immediate allocation of any payment made against an outstanding balances at any of GPL’s nine networked commercial offices, and timely processing of bills.
Sears-Murray added that in order to facilitate and ensure the successful implementation of the system, the company will be issuing two bills (for February 2010 and March 2010) to all of its customers within a six week period as against the normal practice of one bill per month.  This means that the February, 2010, bill will fall due in May, 2010, she added.
She said GPL is therefore encouraging customers to continue the good practice of settling their accounts in a timely manner.
GPL expects this situation to return to the normal practice of issuing one bill per month from May, 2010.
