THE Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets first division cricket team last Monday made three donations towards the development of cricket in the Ancient County of Berbice to the Port Mourant Cricket Club, Disabled People’s Network and the Academy for Excellence Cricket Club respectively. The 2009 Guyana Cricket Board’s Club of the Year team handed over three trophies and medals to the historic Port Mourant Cricket Club to assist the club who will be hosting a fundraising cricket tournament while the Disabled People’s Network received a financial donation and some other items to host the first ever blind cricket match in Berbice.
The team that included four national players, brothers Esaun and Royston Crandon, Assad Fudadin and Delbert Hicks, also donated a collection of educational material to the Academy for Excellence Club for their first ever summer camp for over 160 youths in the Corentyne villages of Hogstye and Lancaster.
Organising Secretary of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sport Club (RHTYSC) Ravindranauth Kissoonlall disclosed that the Gizmos and Gadgets Team made the donation under their personal developmental programme which seeks to teach the players the importance of being proper role models and assisting others to fulfil dreams.
The donations were worth a combined $120 000 and Kissoonlall praised the team for reaching out and making a positive difference to the lives of many others, including the less fortunate.
In handing over the donations, senior player Ravi Narine wished the three clubs the best and expressed the hope that one day they would reach the same status as the RHTYSC.
