oday as we celebrate our status of being a free and independent nation state for forty-four (44) years we cannot help but pay homage to the struggles and sacrifices of Guyanese who have continued to give of themselves selflessly both at home and from abroad to keep our Golden Arrow-Head aloft. Ours is a proud nation of people different in many glorious respects, but yet equal by virtue of having that distinguishing birth right as Guyanese. In the midst of despair and hopelessness the Alliance For Change declares that a better day will come and all of the sacrifice of those both living and departed will bring forth the victory that has been denied us for the past 44 years.
On the occasion of our Independence anniversary we salute the good and faithful sons and daughters of Guyana who, despite the drudgery of everyday life, persevere without recognition or little or no recompense. They are the true, though unsung, heroes and heroines of Guyana and it is to them that we pay tribute on our 44th Anniversary.
Those who maintain power by fostering ignorance, racial tensions and distrust, will be overcome by the people of Guyana demanding and securing a change of government and in the manner in which the state of Guyana is organised and governed.
In the very near future we will restore national honours and awards and lift the enveloping veil of darkness that has been laid down by the deeds of those to whom the pursuit of power is life’s only ambition. The wind of change which is blowing elsewhere will, we promise, sweep through Guyana once we continue to believe and commit to make it so. Today, we celebrate the prospect of true freedom and ask each citizen to keep hope alive in their hearts.
