Sports fraternity should be more proactive with fund raising

A photo is indeed worth a million and I have to give SN a “pumped fist” for its back page report dated May 22, 2010 of the photo image finish with overseas based Guyanese Marian Burnett and Panama’s Andrea Ferris. Marian came so close in securing the gold in the 800m at the Caixa Para International Grand Prix in Belem, Brazil and this is exactly what I expect of  athletic ambassadors at overseas meetings. Dig deep with everything you have got in the reserve and give your competition a tight run to the very last. I hope that all those who might have had access to this particular publication, would say, well done to Marian Burnett internally. It’s only a matter of time before my quest is completed and I would sit back and have a Cuba’s cigar.

Topaz, you have just set the bar so high with your contribution of real “Gold Medals” towards the Swimming Fraternity and I can finally say that, the business community is doing great with their contribution and Guyana is going to go places and create an impact to a much higher level in sports. I am very optimistic about that.

The government must be credited for their contribution towards sponsorship for athletes winging off to the CAC Games in Mayaquez, Puerto Rico slated for July 17-August 1.
I urge the kind hearted persons and companies of the business community who haven’t been able to come forward as yet to seriously give some consideration towards a good cause and join the band wagon and let us showcase Guyana in a more positive limelight.
There is the CAC Junior Championships in Santo Domingo slated for July 3-5 and The World Junior Championships in Canada from July 19-25.
I have no idea if The Tourism Fraternity has seriously paid any attention to sports in general, but I believe they should get involve in whatever way/s it can. Athletic ambassadors help to sell its country in one way or the other towards potential visitors.

I say the following in good faith. I believe “The Sports Fraternity” needs to be more pro-active with fund raising events which can generate funds to help offset travelling expenses for sports ambassadors along with support from the business community and the government of the day.
