“Cockle horn” lands bus driver in court

Rudolph Marshall, a route 44 mini bus driver was on Wednesday slapped with three traffic violation charges when he appeared before Magistrate Shurdell Isaacs –Marcus at the Cove and John Magistrates Court. The first charge read by Magistrate Isaacs- Marcus to the defendant stated that on Tuesday 11 May, at the Cove and John public road, he drove mini bus BGG 1504 and when stopped by police, he failed to behave in a civil and orderly manner, for which he pleaded not guilty. The second charge stated that Marshal on the same day, drove mini bus BGG- 1504 with a defective indicator, followed by  driving a motor vehicle  with defective working appliance.
When questioned by the Magistrate as to what is a defective working appliance, Marshal told the court that the bus which he was driving has one of those modern day “cockle horns”   which is considered unusually loud and clearer than the regular vehicular horns.
Magistrate Isaacs – Marcus expressed her concerns for the contravention of law in having a special or specific horn type and requested the presence of the charging officer to further explain the charge.     Prosecutor Lloyd Thomas then told the court that, as far as he knows, there is no existing law prohibiting a vehicle from installing the so-called “cockle horns”.
The thirty four year old was then place on Twenty thousand dollars bail and is expected to return to court on 3rd November , 2010.
