A LARGE crowd braved heavy and consistent rainfall Sunday afternoon to attend the grand cultural mela, staged by the Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) at Anna Regina Community Centre Ground on Essequibo Coast.
The fair marked the 173rd anniversary of the arrival of East Indians in this country and Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Vice- Chairman, Mr. Vishnu Samaroo told the gathering, especially the descendant, that they must maintain the culture their foreparents brought from India.
“Our foreparents worked hard and have gone through many, many struggles to work and develop this country. We must not forget their struggle and sacrifices and every Guyanese should build on the legacies they left us,” he urged.
The programme featured several dances by troupes mainly from Georgetown and one dancer from Essequibo.
