Maha Sabha multi-complex centre to be completed by year-end

The Guyana Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha Friday held a cultural programme to launch phase two of the construction of the multi-complex centre, which is adjacent to the Maha Sabha Mandir on Lamaha Street.
The centre aims to build and retain, through diversification, the historical stature of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha.
The three-storeyed multi-complex centre will be called Kalyan Centre, and is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year.

The centre will consist of an auditorium, in which cultural and religious events will take place. Dancing and singing classes will also be held.
In addition, computers will be available with internet access so that the youths can be further educated.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds commended the Maha Sabha on its initiative to construct the complex.
He noted that the complex will help to maintain religious practices that began from the early days of the arrival of Indians to Guyana.
He wished members of the Maha Sabha success as they proceed with the project.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, who was also present at the launch, said he is proud of the tangible contribution that the Sabha has given to Guyana.
He noted that the Hindu Scriptures teach moral behavior and he is happy that this organisation is willing to propagate those teachings to the youths of today.
Member of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, Bahenji Vijaya Jagnandan, said that the complex will be a vibrant meeting place for Hindus as well as other individuals regardless of race, class or age to come and mingle and unite in a common cultural bond.
Jagnandan noted that the complex will enable persons to show their talents and artistic abilities, and will also nurture them into successful people.

She added that the centre will be a place to foster the well-being and healthy lifestyle of people and yoga classes will be one of the activities of the centre.
In addition, there will be a medical section where medical personnel can volunteer and attend to the sick.
The Guyana Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha was established in 1934, and is the first Hindu organisation to emerge in Guyana following the arrival of the East Indians in 1838.
