FESTIVA
THE FIRST ever Guyanese rum and food festival, previously scheduled for Labour Day, yesterday, has been rescheduled to Independence Day on May 26.
Vice-Chairman of the recently formed Global Friendships Foundation (GFF), Mr. Waynwright Orderson, has communicated that the change is due to the inclement weather.
GFF is collaborating with Guyana’s major beverage and food producers to stage the inaugural Guyanese Food and Rum Festival.
The grand debut, at Promenade Gardens in Middle Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown, is being touted as a gastronomic event, intended to promote original and delicious food variations and world-acclaimed rums indigenous to this country.
It is anticipated that the staging will attract some of the best chefs, eating houses and rum connoisseurs there are locally.
He also hopes persons from all walks of life countrywide and visitors to Guyana, including people coming for the major cricket tournament, will attend.
Orderson said the aim in hosting the event is to teach participants about the diversity of Guyanese food, and the excellence of Demerara rums, which are fast developing international tastes.
Among the booths for the occasion will be those sponsored by the two leading beverage companies and rum producers in Guyana, namely Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) and Banks DIH Limited, as well as restaurants and food establishments.
The show will begin at 10:00h and continue well into the evening, with steelpan and other live music and more cultural presentations in the bandstand for the duration of the event.
First food, rum festival postponed to May 26
