Robbery charge against previously freed murder accused dismissed

DORSETTE Mc Cammon, the man previously freed of the murder indictment that followed the shooting death of Police Constable Micah Cort, has had another pending case dismissed.
The accused had been charged, in 2005, with robbery with violence but Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo threw out the case at New Amsterdam Court, in Berbice, on Monday.
Particulars of the offence had alleged that, December 21, 2005, in Angoy’s Avenue, Greater New Amsterdam, Mc Cammon, in company with others, robbed Mark Yearwood, at gunpoint, of $10,000, belonging to Hazel Yearwood.
However the magistrate upheld a no-case submission by Defence Counsel Mursalene Bacchus when the Prosecution was forced to close, after the main witness, the virtual complainant, Mark Yearwood, did not testify.
The lawyer submitted Mc Cammon had no case to answer as the alleged victim never testified.
Bacchus also informed the magistrate that, with regard to another case involving Mc Cammon, he intends to file a motion in the High Court, for the dismissal of the illegal possession of arms and ammunition charge.
Bacchus is contending that the issue was already determined when Mc Cammon was freed of the capital offence at the Berbice Assizes.
Meanwhile, Mc Cammon must return to New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on May 10.
