Juveniles, adults jointly charged with burglary

FIVE teenagers, two adults and three juveniles, have been jointly charged with break and enter and larceny.
Sanjay Doodnauth, 18 and Rajin Arjune, 19, both fishermen and three 15-year-olds appeared before Magistrtae Omeyana Hamlinton, at New Amsterdam Court, in Berbice, yesterday.

The accused were not required to plea to the indictable charge and the adults were remanded to prison while the others are being kept in juvenile detention, at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice, until tomorrow, when they all make another appearance before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo in New Amsterdam.
Police Corporal  Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said one of the minors, a school dropout, was used to access small passageways and facilitate entry for the rest into other persons’ homes.
The Prosecutor, who said that minor has another similar charge pending, also told Magistrate Hamlinton that one of the juveniles was previously charged with trafficking in narcotics and the case is still pending.
That accused is the offspring of a dead mother and a father who is an inmate at Mazaruni Prison, Figueira said.
He related that the virtual complainant in the instant case, Abigail Fraser had secured her home, at Lot 30 Sheet Anchor Village, in Berbice, as well, and gone out but returned to find a kitchen window ajar.
The woman, on checking, discovered a blender, a transformer, a television set, a DVD player, an amplifier, a 12-inch speaker, two tweeters, two gold finger rings, a gold chain, a gold band and a half pair of earrings missing.
The Prosecutor said, following a report made at to Central Police Station, cops, acting on information, arrested the quintet and recovered some of the booty that had been sold to villagers after the burglary.
