Jailed for scrap metal fraud

RAKESH Bahadur, of Number Two Village, Corentyne, was sentenced to one year imprisonment, on Monday, for fraudulent conversion.
He was found guilty of the offence, by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, after a trial at New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice.

Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, led four witnesses to prove that, on March 10, 2006, at Lot 45 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Ray Ramnarine entrusted the prisoner with six tons of scrap metal, for him to sell and return the proceeds.
However, Bahadur sold the merchandise but failed to give Ramnarine the money from the sale, the Court was told.
