..Yakusari Caribs and Young Warriors advance to final 16
THE 2009 Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) organised New Building Society (NBS) sponsored second division limited overs competition continued recently in the Ancient County, with  Naipaul Ayana hitting an unbeaten ton for Yakusari Caribs who along with  Young warriors, have made it to the final 16 of the largest second division competition in Guyana.

Ayana slammed 154 not out to help his team defeat Mibicuri Strikers in their latest Zone L (Central Corentyne/Black Bush Polder) preliminary match to end with a clean sweep of that Zone, thus earning a spot in the last 16 play-offs of the competition.
Opening the batting, Ayana hit 5 fours and 16 sixes in his knock which spearhead the Caribs to a total of 281 for 6 in their allotted 30 Overs. His brother Ramesh Ayana, bowling offspin, then took 4 for 5 from 5 Overs to bowl out Mibicuri strikers for 72 in their response.
Young Warriors of Cumberland and Canefield both won their latest Zone E (Canje/New Amsterdam) preliminary matches to end up tied on top of the zone. Young Warriors however by virtue of having the better run rate of the two teams, was therefore given the right to advance to the play-offs.
For Warriors, it was the old warriors – Hubern Evans (4 for 25) and Anil Beharry (59) – that led the way. Canefield owed their victory to a fine innings of 67 from Makesh Latchman.
Vishal Bejai hit 87 and Pooran Ramjattan 56 to spearhead Bath Development Centre score 273 for 5 in their 30 Overs against No. 8, helping their team to a 115 run win in the process.
Other half centuries were scored by Devanand Cyril of Young and Restless and Jermaine Skeete of Rainbow Generation.
Vishwanauth Lallbeharry had a 5-wicket haul for No. 69 Vikings in a losing effort.

At Rose Hall in Canje: Canefield beat Mental Hospital by 47 runs. Canefield 158 in 31.3 Overs with Makesh Latchman 67, Leon Sunthgolam 27, Charles Grimmond 4 for 19. Mental Hospital 111 in 21 Overs with Charles Grimmond 46, Leon Sunthgolam 4 for 12, Satesh Rupai 3 for 26. Khemraj Sumair 2 for 29.
At Bath: Bath Development Centre beat No. 8 by 115 runs. Bath Development Centre 173 for 5 in 30 Overs with Vishal Bejai 87, Pooran Ramjattan 56, Ravi Gossai 36, Amit Balkarran 35 N.O; Charles Pluck 2 for 45. No. 8, 158 in 27.2 Overs with Tulsiepersaud Surujballi 4 for 20, Vishal Bajai 2 for 17.
At Seafield: Rainbow Generation beat Bath Aditya by 9 wickets. Bath Aditya 88 in 24 Overs with Terrence Mc Kenzie 3 for 13, Wayne Fraser 2 for 19, Tyson Carmichael 2 for 27. Rainbow Generation 90 for 1 in 8 Overs with Jermain Skeet 56 N.O.

At No. 69: No. 70 Lalman beat No. 69 Vikings by 1 wicket. No. 69 Vikings 105 in 32 Overs with Bheem Singh 4 for 10, Omesh Khemraj 4 for 30. No. 70 Lalman 106 for 9 in 32.4 Overs with Bheem Singh 25, Vishwanauth Lallbeharry 5 for 31.
