Two charged with March Corentyne robbery murder

POLICE have charged O’Jay Gourie, 21 and Troy Holligan, 29, both of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, with the murder of New Amsterdam Market vendor Hasraj Samaroo. The accused duo appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court, yesterday, also on a charge of robbery under arms committed on Kumarie Samaroo, widow of the victim.
Particulars of the capital offence said, between March 27 and 28, at Hampshire, Corentyne,  Gourie and Holligan, in company with others, murdered Hasraj Samaroo.

Following the slaying of the fruits seller at his home, the alleged killers also robbed the woman, at gunpoint, of gold jewellery, United States (U.S.) and local currency, valued a total of G$1.1M, the other charge said.
The accused men were remanded to prison until April 27 and the cases were transferred to Albion Court, Corentyne.
The surviving Samaroo, 45, said her husband, 49, also of Lot  63 Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne, succumbed at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), after undergoing emergency surgery for gunshot injuries suffered on March 27, during the murderous attack at their home about 19:30 h.
