Chairman Keith Burrowes and Board members of Guyana National Newspapers Limited offer heartiest congratulations to President Bharrat Jagdeo on his new Champion of the Earth Award granted by the United Nations Environmental Programme The GNNL Chairman and Board are cognizant of the signal honour this award has bestowed on President Jagdeo, considering that the Guyana Head of State and the other Champion of the Earth awardees are being recognized as “ Pillars of Transition to a 21st Century Green Economy”.
The GNNL Board has noted the gracious acceptance speech made by President Jagdeo, in which he interprets his receiving the award “as an endorsement of the people of Guyana’s long standing efforts to help change the way the world values scarce natural resources”; as well as the generous promise by the President to donate the US$40,000 prize to Amerindian communities here.
