‘GONE but not forgotten’ are words that can surely be attributed to the late Colin Francis Wiltshire, who will be honoured tonight as a product of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and a former national middle-order batsman. DCC, in collaboration with its New York Chapter, will be unveiling a space to celebrate and recognise the life of Wiltshire in their Lance Gibbs Street pavilion at a simple presentation ceremony.
The NY Chapter represented by Carlyle Miller, a former Guyana fast bowler, Richard Thompson and Burchfield Moore will be handing over a plaque in his memory which will be given a place of honour in the club.
Last December, DCC and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) jointly held a night of reflection and remembrance for the late Colin Wiltshire. Many national and former players, administrators and fans paid their respects to this sports figure.
Wiltshire represented B.G. between 1959 and 1964, playing in 8 matches and his most memorable performance was a century (197) against the Combined Islands at Bourda in 1961, which went along with a couple of fifties and in fact he ended his career with a reasonably decent average of 34.
All members of DCC are invited to this simple presentation which commences at 19:00 h with refreshments being made available after the ceremony. (Calvin Roberts)
