Perpetrators of sexual molestation must be brought to justice

THE latest in the series of allegations of sexual molestation of young girls by CN Sharma prominent businessman, politician and broadcaster ought to be pursued with extreme vigour among the steadily growing incidents in our society. No opportunity should be spared in condemning and exposing the perpetrators of sexual abuse of our children. The media and police ought to be aggressive in this matter where CN Sharma allegedly molested a child and her sisters over a period of several years. It is my sincere hope that certain sections of the media would avoid trying to deflect attention from the seriousness of this allegation of sex crimes by the rich and famous.
No one should be allowed to get away with such crime and while I am not being judgmental, we have to start off from the premise of believing the story of the child which revealed that the perpetrator may have used various tactics to gain access to, manipulate and control these young girls.
The CN Sharma matter is important to pursue to the end to determine the level of coercion used because we have heard in previous allegations against him that he used bribery, trickery and other forms of psychological coercion to gain access to, and make his victims of sexual abuse compliant.
There are far too many instances where our abused children are afraid to come forward which contributes to an environment in which opportunities for abuse and exploitation can occur.
The media and politicians should not try to politicize this issue and all the NGOs, civil organisations, diplomatic missions and social activists should condemn this act of sexual molestation by ensuring the perpetrator is brought to justice.
