EAST Demerara’s Victoria Kings registered a come-from-behind 4-1 win over Georgetown’s Sunburst Camptown when Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) `Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF’ Super League continued on Wednesday evening with a lone match at the GFC ground. The East Coast side started the first session playing at a fast pace but were unlucky not to open their account as an Aubrey Gibson powerfully struck shot narrowly passed the unguarded second post.
However, Sunburst Camptown got their composure and started retaliating fiercely with raids down their opponents’ left and right flanks, but poor first touches by the strikers failed to offer any potential threats of scoring.
The battle for midfield possession continued in the first session and the city side were able to establish a slim 1-0 lead as Ryan O’Selmo found his target in the 11th minute of the period.
East Coast, however, drew level 13 minutes later when Gibson, cutting in from the left flank, wrong-footed his marker and shot instantly with a well-placed right-footer that rocked the back of the opposition’s net to level the score 1-1 at the end of the first 45 minutes.
At the restart of the game (second half), Kings went into overdrive while their opponents went into defensive mode and in the process conceded a free kick atop the 18-yard box in the 58th minute and Pierre Joseph placed it with consummate ease into the opposition’s goal with a curling right foot shot that beat the custodian at the first post.
Calvin DeSouza and Orin Elias in the 67th and 73rd minutes respectively accounted for the victors’ remaining goals.
Kings were reduced to 10 men following the expulsion of Reuben Morris in the 74th minute after receiving a second yellow card in the game.
Kings, with their second consecutive victory and one draw along with two losses, have now progressed to seven points and occupy the fifth spot in the points standing, while Camptown, upon securing their third consecutive loss, remain stuck at three points and are currently in the penultimate spot of the points standings.
