GT&T on board with Hugh Ross Classic

THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) yesterday announced their alliance with the second Hugh Ross Classic Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, which is set for May 2 at the National Cultural Centre. A cheque for an undisclosed sum was handed over to the Hugh Ross Classic planning committee and GT&T’s Director of Marketing and Sales, Wyston Robertson, expressed their joy of being part of something which he says is truly a national event.
Robertson pointed out that since Hugh Ross is a son of soil and is one of Guyana’s most accomplished bodybuilder, GT&T was not hesitant to affiliate itself with the event which seeks to honour his accomplishments in the sport.
Robertson pointed out that apart from their sponsorship of the event on May 5, GT&T will be actively involved in the Hugh Ross Fitness Walk on April 25.

“In speaking with Hugh Ross on a personal basis before, I understand that he’s very serious about the Fitness aspect of his life and also (of) others. So, we here at GT&T, apart from providing the T-shirts for the Walk, we would be supporting it in numbers also,” Robertson said.
On the evening of the show at the Cultural Centre, patrons will have a chance to be part of several promotions planned by GT&T, with Robertson mentioning that they “want to add something else to the card this year like an arm-wrestling competition apart from the other stuff that we’ll be giving away and so on”.
Meanwhile, competition coordinator Leroy George said that his checks on the athletes revealed that patrons would be in for a treat come May 5, because of the readiness and enthusiasm being shown by the individuals.
Over 40 of the country’s musclemen would compete for the coveted Mr Hugh Ross Classic which is held presently by Lindener Mark ‘Uno’ Perry after he unanimously won it in 2008.
However, Perry would not be defending that title this year; a move Hugh himself described as strategic for the want of proper competition because of the massive build of Perry.
