Abusive husband remanded after admitting wife threat

SOHAN Narine, 42, of Lot 186 Waterloo Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday, charged with threatening behaviour towards his wife, Fareida Khan. He pleaded guilty, admitting that he threatened to burn the house in which the two live on April 10.
The defendant told the Court that, after they were involved in an argument, he went out and drank alcohol, returned home drunk and made the threat when the virtual complainant refused to open their gate.
Khan complained that she had suffered three years of abuse at the hands of Narine.
She related that, before the incident, someone broke into her motor car and she used her husband’s money to fix it but did not give him details of the repairs because he was intoxicated at the time of asking.
Khan said that caused the defendant to become upset, leave the home and return under the influence of alcohol.
She said he was flicking a cigarette lighter when he made the threat.
Narine, on his knees said he was sorry and wants his wife back.
He promised not to drink anymore.
“She made me somebody and I love her. She’s too good to throw away and I promise to treat her well,” Narine said.
The magistrate ordered a probation report on the case and remanded Narine to prison until April 20.
