GCC, DCC, GDF and Everest record Digicel/GCA T20 wins

GEORGETOWN Cricket Club (GCC), Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Everest recorded victories yesterday in the opening round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Digicel-sponsored Twenty20 first-division cricket competition.
At Police, GCC whipped Transport Sports Club (TSC) by seven wickets, while hosts DCC thrashed Police by 123 runs and GDF humbled home team Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by seven wickets.
And in the other scheduled game, Everest clinched a thrilling two-run margin over Guyana National Industrial Coorporation (GNIC) at GDF ground.
Scores from the matches are as follows:
DCC 212-8 off 20 overs: Andrew Lyght Jr. 89, Cohen Ishmond 39, Jayron Byron 21, Utam Munroe 20; Randolph Knight 2-43, Jason Heyliger 2-52. Police, in reply, 82 all out off 11.4 overs: Trevor Benn 39; Leron Primo 4-28, Dennis Squires 3-16 and Totaram Bishun 2-15.
At Police, TSC 109 all out off 20 overs: Ken Alphonson 28, Devon Nandan 27 and Shaun Messiah 21; Leon Johnson 4-10, Jeetendra Sookdeo 2-11, Ricardo Jadunauth 2-13. GCC, in reply, reached 112-2 off 1.1 overs: Wasim Haslim 71 not out and Jadunauth 21 not out.
At MSC, MSC 111 all out off 18.5 overs: Dhanny Narayan 24, Shaquille Williams 20; Travis Gilbert 3-23, Carl Campbell 2-15. GDF, in reply, made 112-3 off 16.4 overs: Dilon Heyliger 64 not out.
At GDF, Everest 129-9 off 20 overs: Chris Patadin 39, Dayanand Roopnarine 29; Ronale Bourne 3-18. GNIC, in reply, scored 127-8 off 20 overs: Rayon Griffith 23, Bourne 21; Charles Ramson 3-19.
The competition continues today with another four matches at various venues across the city.
