Probation report ordered in friend wounding case

MAGISTRATE Adela Nagamootoo yesterday ordered a probation report into the background of  a 13-year-old lad facing seven charges, including wounding and indecent assault.
It happened at New Amsterdam Court after the juvenile pleaded guilty to the unlawful and malicious wounding charge which said the offence was committed on one of his peers, also charged with assaulting him.

Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, said the two defendants were good friends prior to March 26 when, at a playfield in Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, they were involved in an argument that led to them assaulting each other.
The Prosecutor said the teen facing more than one charges went home for a cutlass with which he broadsided and chopped the other.
According to the wounded teen, his attacker was prompted by other peers to fight him after a lighted match was thrown on the latter accidentally and he had to be treated at New Amsterdam Hospital.
Meanwhile, the other teen admitted assaulting his assailant but denied wounding and assaulting Shonnette Hoyte.
Both teenage boys were released into the custody of their parents until April 30.
