Ex-Convict on robbery charge denied bail

EX-CONVICT Richard Barrow, who appeared at New Amsterdam Court in Berbice on Tuesday, was denied bail on a robbery with violence charge.
The accused, 28, who claimed addresses in Angoy’s Avenue, also in New Amsterdam and Albouystown, Georgetown, was before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, where it was alleged that he stole a DELL laptop computer, valued $200,000, from Camille Reddy.
Particulars of the offence said he also robbed Reddy of $2,000, whilst using personal violence before, during or after the robbery.

Police said the victim was a pedestrian when she was attacked at Main and Pope Streets, New Amsterdam, on March 30.
Barrow claimed, however, that, after concluding a five years prison sentence, he was living straight until the computer was sold to him by an individual who admitted it to the Police but the latter demanded $35,000 from him to avoid prosecution.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, advised the remanded prisoner to seek redress through the Police Complainants Authority.
The case will be called again on April 30.
